Julie E. Tea has brought a broad portfolio to Storbeck/Pimentel & Associates, including more than 20 years of experience in higher education, 16 of which have been spent leading executive searches on both the consultancy and institutional sides.
Throughout Ms. Tea’s practice, she has assisted private and public institutions in their searches for presidents, all cabinet-level roles, and an array of academic deans. She has also offered boards of trustees guidance on presidential transition. Before joining Storbeck/Pimentel, Ms. Tea served as associate managing principal and senior consultant at AGB Search. Prior to that, she was a senior consultant at Academic Search, Inc.
More than half of Ms. Tea’s client base consists of repeat clients and direct awards. In addition, she has developed a strong track record of attracting and yielding candidates of diverse backgrounds. More than 50 percent of her placed candidates are women, and just under 70 percent of the finalist pools culled under her watch have been composed of candidates from underrepresented groups.
Ms. Tea has been an invited speaker on executive search, presidential transition, and leadership development at the Association of Governing Boards of Universities and Colleges’ (AGB) National Conference on Trusteeship and at the American Council on Education’s (ACE) Advancing to the Presidency program, among others.
Through her prior positions at small- to medium-sized, highly-selective private universities, Ms. Tea garnered experience working at the executive, graduate, and undergraduate levels. She served as a special assistant and direct report to the president at the University of Richmond, playing a critical role in the development of the institution’s leadership team. She also oversaw a successful presidential transition at the university.
Earlier in her career, Ms. Tea directed Georgetown University’s international undergraduate admission program before moving to the Georgetown Graduate Public Policy Institute (now the McCourt School of Public Policy) to coordinate its academic administration and career development arm. Ms. Tea began her work in education abroad, as a teacher of English as a second language for the St. Stephen’s School, an international high school in Rome, Italy.
